Alignment of Proposed Program Topic with NRC Goals. The ASCENT program responds to the NRC interest in materials engineering, especially materials for advanced reactor and radiation-tolerant sensors. Emphasis is on materials properties including thermodynamic stability and radiation damage that define and limit the use of materials for conventional and new reactor types, radiation-tolerant sensors and waste disposal matrices.
