Horizontal Directional Drilling Sample Clauses

Horizontal Directional Drilling. In order to minimize the disruption of traffic, four major intersections along the Project route will be crossed using horizontal directional drilling (“HDD”). These four HDD intersections are: (a) the intersection of Xxxxxxx Avenue and Clinton Road (plus three more intersections to the west to Coventry Place); (b) the intersection of Xxxxxxx Avenue and Franklin Avenue (plus four more intersections to the east to Washington Avenue); (c) the intersection of Cherry Valley Avenue, Xxxxxxx Avenue and Cathedral Avenue; and (d) the intersection of Westminster Road and Hempstead Turnpike (Route 24). On average, the construction duration for each crossing will be a month, although the exact duration will differ depending on the particular length and drilling conditions of the HDD.

Horizontal Directional Drilling. The horizontal directional drilled (HDD) crossings must be completed to facilitate tie-ins and testing of the line pipe, and to ensure that the Project is completed in time. Contractor shall hydrostatically pre-test the full HDD pipe strings for 4 hours prior to pullback. Contractor shall provide Owner with electronic and hard copies of as-built record drawings for all HDD crossings.
Horizontal Directional Drilling. 24. The public utility shall provide the Pinelands Commission’s Executive Director with a copy of the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Break Out Mitigation Contingency Plan proposed to be utilized for all HDDs to be conducted during construction of the pipeline. No HDD activities shall occur until the Executive Director has approved such plan.
Horizontal Directional Drilling. Sending/Receiving Pits Pits shall be neatly excavated and supported to dimensions sufficient to allow for safe access and permit the coupling of watermain sections and installation of fittings and appurtenances as required within the pit limits. Pit locations shall be as shown on the Contract Drawings. The Contractor shall note that the pit locations shown on the Contract Drawings have been established to minimize disruption to traffic, property access, utilities, trees and the surrounding environment. Alternative pit locations shall be subject to the approval of the Contract Administrator and shall only be approved if in the sole opinion of the Contract Administrator the alternative location results in equal or less disruption. The Contractor may choose to eliminate intermediate pits where it can be demonstrated that installation can be completed over a longer pull-back length within the parameters of the proposed watermain material and the pit is otherwise unnecessary. Drilling Fluid Management The requirements of OPSS 450.07.09 are amended to include the following: • The Contractor shall maintain drilling fluid pressure and circulation throughout the directional drilling process, including during the initial pilot bore and during the reaming process. Drilling Fluid Fracture (Frac-out) In addition to the requirements of OPSS 450 the following requirements shall apply. • Since fluid loss normally occurs in fault zones, fracture zones, or seams of coarse material, fluid migration does not always gravitate to the surface, thus making detection difficult. Once a fluid loss is detected, the Contractor shall halt operations immediately and conduct a detailed examination of the drill path and implement measures to mitigate fluid loss. If no surface migration is evident, resume operation while paying particular attention to fluid monitoring. • In the event of a fluid migration to the surface occurring, the Contractor shall halt all operations immediately, isolate the migration site, and recover fluids. Once the fracture is controlled, continue drilling operations with the operator paying particular attention to the fracture points. Pilot Bore The requirements of OPSS 450.07.10 are amended to include addition of the following: • The Contractor’s methods shall take into consideration the conditions along the pipe alignment and shall be suitable to advance through such obstructions such as cobbles and boulders and address the potential for deflection due to such ob...
Horizontal Directional Drilling. Minimizing Impact HDD is a proven construction technique whereby advanced technology is used to drill an underground arc that travels down, under and back up to the surface on the far side of a water body or other crossing. For large rivers or certain sensitive crossings, directional drilling is an appropriate and preferred construction method because it minimizes impacts on the surface area above the drill. Decommissioning – the Safest Option Once the new pipe has been installed, our intent is to decommission the replaced pipeline segment by draining, cleaning and disconnecting it from service, and sealing the ends with permanent physical barriers to prevent it from acting as a water conduit. Although the decommissioning line is inactive, we continue to monitor it by maintaining cathodic protection.
