Functional Skills – Functional skills are those needed for independent living such as cooking, meal planning, shopping, using or managing money, using public transportation and knowing safety procedures in the home and community.

Qualifications Offered/Level • GCSE Tuition support, English and Maths (Examinations will be taken at the home school) • ASDAN Certificate in Personal Effectiveness, including Life and Employability Skills Level 1 and 2 • NOCN Functional Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT providing a GCSE equivalent D to G level.
Functional Skills Subjects English Consists of three separate components, assessed individually: Reading (1 hour, 10 minutes) Paper-based or online assessment Writing (1 hour, 20 minutes) Paper-based or online assessment Speaking, Listening & Communication (up to 30 minutes) Group activity assessed internally Maths Requires one assessment comprised of three topics: Working with Numbers; Shape, Space & Measure; and Statistics/Handling Data.

Learners have access to ASDAN Wider Key Skills; Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning and Working with Others, plus Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Functional Skills where appropriate.
At the secondary level, there are four subclassifications; a) Learning Center; b) FSA (Functional Skills and Academic), PBS (Positive Behavior Support), and Mid-Level; and c) One-on-One Paraeducators, including One-on-One Paraeducators in the ATP Program; and d) ATP job coaches.
Functional Skills support is provided for appropriate learners at Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 and Levels 1 and 2.
