ALIGNMENT OF BOUNDARY LINE, MAINTENANCE OF BOUNDARY MARKERS AND JOINT BOUNDARY INSPECTION. The boundary line betweenNepaland the People's Republic of Chinais determined by the following delimitation document: "Boundary Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Nepal” signed on October 5, 1961. ARTICLE 3 Both sides determine the alignment of the boundary line and the locations of boundary markers on the spot on the basis ofthe following demarcation documents and joint inspection documents: (i) "Protocol between the Government of the People's Republic of China and His Majesty’s Government of Nepal Relating to the Boundary Between the Two Countries" signed on January 20, 1963; (ii) "Protocol between the Government of the People's Republic of China and His Majesty’s Government of Nepal based on the First Joint Inspection of the China- Nepal Boundary" signed on November 20, 1979; (iii) "Protocol between His Majesty’s Government of Nepal and the Government of the People's Republic of China based on the Second Joint Inspection of the China- Nepal Boundary" signed on December 6, 1988; (iv)Joint inspection documents which will be signed by both sides and come into effect henceforth. ARTICLE 4 1. Both sides shall maintain the boundary markers and adopt necessary measures to prevent their removal, damage or destruction and maintain the boundary line clear and stable. 2. In case either side discovers that any boundary marker has been removed, damaged or destroyed, it shall notify the other side as soon as possible. Where the boundary marker concerned is a marker on the boundary line, both sides shall jointly take necessary steps to restore, repair, or re-erect the marker at its original site in accordance with its original forms and specifications. Where the same serial number is given to two or three boundary markers, each side shall be responsible for the restoration, repair or re- erection of the marker or markers located in its own territory. Such restoration, repair or re-erection shall be carried out in the presence of the other side. When a boundary marker is re-erected or restored, photos shall be taken, along with the preparation of its sketch map and the boundary marker's coordinates and altitude shall be measured in accordance with the regulations agreed upon by both sides. 3. If the boundary marker which has been removed, damaged or destroyed cannot be restored, repaired or re-erected at its original site owing to natural causes, a record shall be made to explain the reason why the boundary marker couldnot be re-erected or...
