CHILD REARING LEAVE – PURPOSE. (a) Subject to the conditions set forth in this Article, child rearing leave shall be granted to any employee for the purpose of caring for a child who is resident in the employee's own home during the period of the leave, provided that the employee desires to resume active employment following the expiration of such leave period. (b) Further, the leave shall apply for caring for a newborn child or a newly adopted child six (6) years of age or younger. (c) Employees serving their initial probationary period at the time of hire or rehire shall not be entitled to child rearing leave pursuant to this Article. Employees serving a probationary period as a result of a promotion to a different competitive class position subsequent to having fulfilled their initial probationary period shall be eligible for the benefits of this Article.
