Cooperation on energy. 1. The aim of the cooperation between the Parties shall be to consolidate economic relations in key sectors such as hydroelectricity, oil and gas, renewable energy, energy-saving technology and rural electrification. 2. Among the objectives of cooperation shall be: (a) exchanges of information in all suitable forms, including developing databases shared by institutions of both Parties, and training and conferences; (b) transfers of technology; (c) diagnostic studies, comparative analyses and implementation of programmes by institutions from both Parties; (d) involvement of public and private operators from both regions in technological development and common-infrastructure projects, including networks with other countries in the region; (e) conclusion, where appropriate, of specific agreements in key fields of mutual interest; and (f) assistance for Chilean institutions dealing with energy matters and the formulation of energy policy.

Cooperation between the Parties shall aim to develop their respective energy sectors, concentrating on the promotion of transfer of technology and exchanges of information about their respective legislation. 2. Cooperation in this sector shall mainly be carried out through exchanges of information, training of human resources, transfer of technology and joint technological development and infrastructure projects, designing more efficient energy generation processes, promoting the rational use of energy, supporting the use of alternative renewable sources of energy which protect the environment, and the promotion of recycling and processing residues for use in generating energy.
