Disability (Maternity and Health) Leave. After one (1) year of continuous employment, a leave of absence for maternity or other health reasons shall be granted upon the recommendation of a physician for the period of disability up to six (6) months , without loss of benefits to the date such leave commences. The leave shall be granted after sick leave which the nurse is eligible to receive has been utilized. Nurses on a disability leave will be allowed to return to the nurse’s former position so long as the total absence (including time on paid sick leave and/or vacation) does not exceed ninety (90) calendar days. An employee on a medical leave of absence for longer than ninety (90) calendar days will receive priority for the first available similar opening for which the employee is qualified. Except for references to sick leave, the leave of absence provisions of this section shall apply to adoption.
