Equivalency. To the extent that it is possible, elementary preparation time will be provided in daily blocks equivalent to a high school period. In no case will an elementary preparation period be less than thirty (30) minutes. When the District is unable to provide full-time elementary employees with preparation time equivalent to one high school period per day, total elementary preparation time for a full week will equal the sum of the minutes in five high school preparation periods.
Equivalency. Whenever possible, an equivalency to an academic credential shall be developed based on a combination of experience and education for purposes of the job posting article. The equivalency statement so developed shall be included in the job vacancy announcement.
Equivalency. In initial placements an equivalency may be established in lieu of a formal diploma or degree, (Article 11.4.1.5). In such case, credit may be granted toward an equivalency on the basis of two or more years experience equals one year of a diploma or degree. 13.5.2.3.1 Occupational/Technical Development: A faculty member observes, studies, evaluates, or works on a special area in her/his field, or trains with a mentor in his/her field including continuing education courses and related projects. The faculty member must demonstrate that such work is related to the person's assignment and is not available through college credit.
13.5.2.3.2 Publications, Performances, Exhibits, or Demonstrations: The work must give evidence of the instructor's professional growth and must enhance or augment an instructor's professional growth and must enhance or augment an instructor's knowledge and understanding in subjects.

In accordance with Education Code Section 87359 and Section 53430 of the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, the District may grant equivalency for a discipline to those applicants who provide conclusive evidence of equivalency to the published minimum qualifications. Disciplines Requiring a Master’s Degree, and Disciplines in Which a Master’s Degree is Generally Not Expected or Available but Which Requires a Specific Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree: Conclusive evidence of equivalency to a degree is based on documentation that an applicant possesses the general education and the major course work required for the published minimum qualifications. Disciplines in Which a Master’s Degree is Generally Not Available: Conclusive evidence of equivalency to a degree is based on documentation that an applicant possesses the general education and the major course work required for the published minimum qualifications. In addition, conclusive evidence of equivalency to required experience is based on mastery of the skills for the discipline and extensive and diverse knowledge of the working environment of the vocation. This process applies to any person who seeks to meet the published minimum qualifications through equivalency, including but not limited to: • Full-time and Part-time faculty • Educational administrators with faculty retreat rights • Leave replacements and specially funded positions All candidates seeking equivalency must submit an Equivalency Request Form (Appendix A) to the District Office of Human Resources. If an applicant does not agree with the results of his/her equivalency request, an appeal may be submitted to the Equivalency Oversight Committee using the Equivalency Appeal Request Form (Appendix D). This appeal is reviewed based on adhearance to equivalency process and procedures only. If the evaluation adheres to the guidelines for equivalency, the Discipline-Based Minimum Qualifications/Equivalency Committee’s (MQ/EQ Committee) decision will stand. If the evaluation deviates from the guidelines for equivalency, the MQ/EQ Committee will be asked to re-evaluate the request, using the correct procedures. The applicant will be notified with the EqOC Appeal Determination Form (Appendix E).
