Faculty Assignment. Teaching, research, and service are integral parts of a faculty member’s assignment. Instructors are not assigned research. The University and UFF recognize that there are legitimate differences in faculty development needs within the academic and university community, in interests and areas of expertise among faculty members, in conventions among academic disciplines, in academic program needs, and in the needs of units employing faculty members. A prescriptive, rigid, and uniform formula that inflexibly dictates annual workloads for individual faculty is not conducive to responding to these differences. This Agreement is intended to provide assignment flexibility, allowing for shifts in the emphasis placed on various duties throughout a faculty member’s career. The University and UFF recognize that it is a part of the faculty member’s professional responsibility to carry out a majority of their duties on campus. Examples of duties and activities which occur on campus during normal business hours, and may require attendance in-person, include, but are not limited to, regularly scheduled instructional activities, scheduled office hours, departmental or University-wide meetings (ex. All Hands), and training sessions. Attendance in campus meetings by telephone is typically not an appropriate solution to executing a faculty member’s duties. The University and UFF further recognize that other duties may be more appropriately performed in a manner and place (i.e. off-campus location), as determined by the faculty member. Regardless, a faculty member shall not choose to work off campus in a manner that materially affects their ability to perform their duties, including those that involve interaction with students, other faculty, and staff. The University shall make a reasonable and good faith effort, consistent with other provisions of this Agreement, to provide faculty members with the necessary facilities and resources for carrying out their assigned duties and responsibilities. Faculty members receive their assignments of duties and responsibilities, in writing, from the University prior to the beginning of each new semester. Assignments generally include instruction, research, and service activities; however, research and service may be assigned on a more flexible basis.

Faculty Assignment. All contract classes for credit must be staffed by faculty meeting the qualifications established in Appendix A. Contract classes will use faculty mutually determined by the Administration and client as specified in the client/College agreement through which the classes and/or services are to be offered. In the event the client does not identify a qualified contractor, qualified full-time college faculty will have first refusal rights to be considered for contract training assignments that are definable units/courses within the contracted arrangement. The order of consideration will be the same as for open enrollment campus/recommended extension classes. Faculty shall be required to teach all courses which are not canceled that they have agreed to teach, unless otherwise agreed to among the faculty member, Workforce Development, and the academic xxxx. The credentials of every instructor to teach credit hour classes will be provided to the academic xxxx and department, normally within one (1) week prior to the start date of the classes or services for review and recommendation. Unusual time constraints may require occasional exceptions. Given one (1) week notice, a faculty member in any contract class or service may be evaluated/reviewed by the department or xxxx according to Sections 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 of this Agreement.
Faculty Assignment will be a 2-semester assignment of courses including instructor’s name, location, modality, day and time.
Faculty Assignment. Seniority is the priority that occurs because of length of service to the College on a continuous, full-time College-wide basis. Seniority of faculty members is determined based on the date they began continuous full-time employment as a member of the faculty. From the ratification of this Agreement forward, time spent outside the bargaining unit shall not be counted toward seniority. Approved leaves, with or without pay, do not adversely affect seniority. Conflicts of seniority among faculty members with the same total years of full-time service will be resolved by month, then date of birth. Further conflicts will be determined by a flip of a coin in Human Resources. The official College faculty seniority list will be posted by Human Resources on the College’s intranet web page, and will be updated within thirty (30) days whenever a new full-time faculty member is employed or one terminates. Prior to each term, the faculty with the highest College-wide seniority in the department will indicate to their Chair their selection for their first course assignment. The same process will be followed consecutively by each faculty member, based on College-wide seniority, until all full-time faculty in the department have chosen their first course. A similar process is used for each faculty member’s second choice, third choice, etc. until a full load is completed for each full-time faculty member. Faculty will be afforded ten (10) working days to complete this process. Faculty will also receive two additional working days to review the completed choices in order to reconsider or swap courses. UFMDCC shall coordinate this process. Course cancellations, unassigned classes, and other similar events may result in modification to the schedule(s). Modification decisions made by the Chair for class assignments are not subject to the grievance procedure. Every reasonable effort will be made to honor these selections. Except, however, that a bargaining unit member whose inload or overload selected class Proposal 1 – January 25, 2002 12 has been modified shall have the right to replace the modified class (or classes) from any class unassigned or assigned to a part-time faculty member. When faculty select classes (in seniority order) for their inload teaching schedule from another department, they shall select their class(es) in the appropriate corresponding round. For example, if a faculty member picks 24 points outside his/her department, (s)he will select classes in rounds ...
