Family Bereavement. Teachers shall be granted seven (7) consecutive days of leave for death in the immediate family. The teacher will be paid for any of the seven (7) consecutive days of leave which are duty days. Immediate family shall include spouse, child, step-child, parent, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, a person who raised the teacher, or anyone who lives regularly in the household of the teacher. Leave shall begin the day after the death, except when the service, funeral, or other appropriate ceremony is scheduled beyond the seven (7) days following the day after death. In the latter circumstances, all leave shall be taken at such time as to include the service. An employee will be permitted up to two (2) days of absence at any one time without the loss of salary upon the death of a step-parent, step-brother, step-sister, brother-in- law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law. One of the two days of absence must be the day of the funeral or interment.

Family Bereavement. All members shall be granted six (6) calendar days of leave for family bereavement. The member will be paid for any of the six (6) calendar days of leave which are duty days. Immediate family shall include spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, a person who reared the member or anyone who lives regularly in the household of the member.
Family Bereavement. The teacher’s family is to be defined as brother, sister, parent-in- law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, grandchildren, grandparents (to include “great” and beyond), spouse’s grandparents (to include “great” and beyond), or any other member of the teacher’s household. Five days of bereavement leave shall be allowed in each case of a death in the teacher’s family. The first two (2) days shall not be taken from the teacher’s sick leave but the remaining three (3) days, if taken, shall be taken from sick leave. All other bereavement leave requests, not addressed in the negotiated agreement, must be approved and will be deducted from personal leave first, followed by sick leave. If all other available paid leave is exhausted, a teacher may request leave without pay. Following the same guidelines as above, part-time teachers who work, on the average, 20-30 hours per week, shall receive the following amounts: Three (3) days total, the first shall not be taken from sick leave, however the remaining two (2), if used, will be taken from sick leave.
Family Bereavement. Upon an employee being notified of a death in his immediate family while on duty, the City shall take prompt action to find a suitable relief in order that the employee may be released from duty. (Immediate family is defined as outlined in Section 1.12.230; subsection B5, of the Official Code of the City of Tacoma.) Upon approval by the Chief of Police or designee, a maximum of four (4) days of sick leave may be granted for the death of an immediate family member.

Family Bereavement. Section 11.8.1. Absence due to death in the immediate-family shall be granted with full pay up to five (5) days. Immediate family shall be defined as the following family relationships of both the driver and spouse/domestic partner: father and mother, spouse/domestic partner, children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.
