Selection of Textbooks and Teaching Materials. 1. Textbooks and other teaching materials shall be selected by the faculty member involved in teaching a specific course. Teaching materials may include, but are not limited to, grading rubric, z-grade policy, ADA compliance, course objectives, course outlines, examinations and final projects. Department chairs, deans and vice presidents can periodically review and, when necessary, collect such teaching materials. The College shall inform faculty members and Department Chairs of the availability of textbooks at least one week prior to the start of classes. 2. In instances of courses with multiple sections, the majority of full-time faculty members teaching the course must agree upon the text to be used. In the case of a tie the department chairperson shall cast the tie breaking vote. 3. Selection of textbooks and teaching materials, as defined in subsection (1), shall be subject to the approval of the department chairperson and division xxxx. If disapproved, the department chairperson or division xxxx shall, if requested, supply written reason(s) for such action. 4. Notwithstanding the provisions of (A) (2) above, when necessary for sound and compelling educational reasons, a faculty member teaching a non-high school program with multiple sections may use a text which is different from the text approved by a majority of the faculty members teaching the course if the majority of the faculty members teaching the course recommend an exception and such recommendation is approved by the responsible Department Chairperson. 5. Notwithstanding the provisions of (A) (2) above, the selection of textbooks for courses taught in the College in the High School program shall be made by the high school subject to the annual approval of the responsible Department Chair based on whether or not the text content maintains course integrity.
