Statutory Adoption/Parental Leave. Normal salary shall not be paid during the term of the leave. However: i. For a teacher on statutory adoption or parental leave where there is a two (2) week waiting period prior to the receipt of Employment Insurance payments the teacher will receive two (2) weeks of payments equivalent to full salary for the first two (2) weeks of the leave. Such payments shall be made as soon as possible after the teacher submits proof of the Employment Insurance amount that the teacher is eligible for and proof that the first Employment Insurance payment has been made. The adoption/parental salary payment shall be based on the teacher’s regular rate of pay in effect on the date of commencement of the leave. ii. For a teacher on statutory adoption or parental leave where there is not a two week waiting period prior to the receipt of Employment Insurance payments the teacher will receive a top-up payment which, when added to the Employment Insurance benefit, shall be equal to 100% of the teacher’s regular rate of pay for the first two (2) weeks of leave. Such payments shall be made as soon as possible after the teacher submits proof of the Employment Insurance amount that the teacher is eligible for and proof that the first Employment Insurance payment has been made. The adoption/parental top-up payment shall be based on the teacher’s regular rate of pay in effect on the date of commencement of the leave.
