TEMPORARY SERVICE IN A HIGHER CLASS. Section One. An employee who is assigned to perform temporary service in a higher class shall, commencing with the thirty-first consecutive work day, be paid for such actual work retroactive to the first day of such work at the rate of the higher class as if promoted thereto, provided such assignment is approved by the Commissioner of Administrative Services or designee. Section Two. Such assignments may be made when there is a bona fide vacancy which management has decided to fill, or when an employee is on extended absence due to illness, leave of absence, or other reasons. Extended absence is one which is expected to last more than 30 working days.

Extended absence is one which is expected to last more than thirty (30) calendar days.
