Work Load / Preparation Time. a. The normal weekly teaching load in the junior and senior high schools (6-12) will not exceed twenty-five (25) teaching periods (5/day). Teaching periods shall not exceed fifty (50) minutes per period. Senior high school teachers shall be given a minimum of one (1) fifty (50) minute unassigned preparation period per normal school day. Homeroom at the junior high will consist of two (2) days of scripted Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons from an evidence based curriculum and three (3) days per week for silent sustained reading. If the junior high school schedule is based on a nine period day, junior high school teachers shall be given a minimum of one (1) unassigned teaching period for preparation per full school day and not less than two (2) unassigned teaching periods for preparation per full school day for one (1) semester. Each junior high teacher shall have no more than the equivalent of one and one- half (1-½) periods of assigned supervision for the school year. Counselors, librarians and nurses shall schedule their preparation periods in consultation with their building principals. b. The normal teaching load in the elementary schools (K-5) shall have provision for planning time of two hundred forty (240) minutes per week. Elementary teachers shall have at least one (1) thirty (30) minute planning period per normal school day.
