Technical Cooperation for Development of Kikuletwa Power Station as a Hydropower Training Centre and for Electricity Generation
Technical Cooperation Agreement • November 19th, 2015

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has entered into an Agreement concerning technical cooperation with Arusha Technical College for development of Kikuletwa Power Station as a training centre (phase A) as well as for power production (Phase B, which depends on the outcome of Phase A). The Kikuletwa Power Station, built back in 1938, ceased operation in 1989, and has since been deteriorating. In 2012 ATC took over the responsibility for rehabilitation and operation of the Kikuletwa Power Station, with the main aim to undertake training on hydro-electric power plant operation. Parallel to tailored courses the Kikuletwa Centre will be used as a test centre for the micro hydropower turbines produced by ATC. In early 2017 an investor has agreed to rehabilitate the power station for power production and will be entering into an agreement with ATC as a partner. In the long run 2-3 more power stations as a cascade downstream in the Kikuletwa River may be developed.
