Community Forest Expansion ProposalCommunity Forest Agreement • April 3rd, 2019
Contract Type FiledApril 3rd, 2019The community forest agreement (CFA) is an area-based licence that provides the exclusive right to harvest timber and the right to manage botanical and other prescribed products. Licences are granted to community-based entities, including corporations, limited partnerships, societies and co-ops. There are currently 58 community forests operating in BC. These organizations represent over 90 individual communities, distributed widely across BC. Almost half of the province’s CFAs are held by First Nations or by an Indigenous/non-indigenous partnership. With a mandate to manage according to the principles set out by the community, CFA holders must incorporate economic, social, cultural and environmental values and operate as successful forest management businesses.
