On 3 May 2012, New Zealand and Canada signed an updated tax treaty to replace the existing treaty dating from 1980. The new treaty will help reduce tax impediments to trade and investment and give greater certainty about how income will be taxed. The treaty will come into force once both countries have given it legal effect.
