Though, the disputes in the India-China border had sporadically taken place ever since the Independence of India in 1947 and the Communist Revolution of China in 1949, the confusion of the undefined borders dates back to the colonial era and pre-communist period. These mutually accepted terms were put forward by both parties as a form of conflict resolution. According to the British in the 1860s, when they proposed the Johnson Line, the borders of Jammu and Kashmir included the Aksai Chin region. In the case of Aksai Chin, there was a prolonged argument over the proposal made during India’s colonial period, in which China failed to respond and that in turn led to India to believe that Aksai Chin was part of their territory after India’s Independence.
