Channel migration zone definition

Channel migration zone means the lateral extent of likely movement of a stream or river channel along a stream reach.
Channel migration zone. (CMZ) means the area where the active channel of a stream is prone to move and this results in a potential near-term loss of riparian function and associated habitat adjacent to the stream, except as modified by a permanent levee, dike, railroad lines, or any public transportation infrastructure. For this purpose, near term means the time scale required to grow a mature forest.
Channel migration zone means those areas within the lateral extent of likely stream channel movement that are subject to risk due to stream bank destabilization, rapid stream incision, stream bank erosion and shifts in the location of stream channels, as shown on Enumclaw’s channel migration zone maps. “Channel migration zone” means the corridor that includes the present channel, the severe channel migration hazard area and the moderate channel migration hazard area. “Channel migration zone” does not include areas that lie behind an arterial road, a public road serving as a sole access route, a state or federal highway or a railroad. “Channel migration zone” may exclude areas that lie behind a lawfully established flood protection facility that is likely to be maintained by existing programs for public maintenance consistent with designation and classification criteria specified by public rule.

More Definitions of Channel migration zone

Channel migration zone means the area along a river within which the channel(s) can be reasonably predicted to migrate over time as a result of natural and normally occurring hydrological and related processes when considered with the characteristics of the river and its surroundings. For purposes of the City’s Shoreline Master Program, the channel migration zone shall not extend beyond the floodway.
Channel migration zone means the area where the active channel of a stream is prone to move, resulting in a potential near-term loss of riparian function and associated habitat adjacent to the stream, except as modified by a permanent levee or dike. For this purpose, near-term means the time scale required to grow a mature forest (WAC 222 –16-010); those areas within the lateral extent of likely stream channel movement that are subject to risk due to stream bank destabilization, rapid stream incision, stream bank erosion, and shifts in the location of stream channels.
Channel migration zone means the area along a river within which the channel(s) can be reasonably predicted to migrate over time as a result of natural and normally occurring hydrological and related processes when considered with the characteristics of the river and its surroundings. For the purpose of this code the CMZ excludes areas separated from the active river channel by legally existing artificial structures that are likely to restrain channel migration, including but not limited to flood control facilities, transportation facilities, and structures built above or constructed to remain intact through the one hundred-year flood.
Channel migration zone. (or CMZ) means an area within the lateral extent of likely stream channel movement that is subject to risk due to stream bank destabilization, rapid stream incision, stream bank erosion and shifts in the location of stream channels. “Channel migration zone” means the historic channel migration zone (which is the footprint of the active channel documented through historical photographs and maps), the avulsion hazard zone (which is an area with the potential for movement of the main river channel into a new location), and the erosion hazard area (which is an area outside the historic channel migration zone and the avulsion hazard zone, and includes an erosion setback for a 100-year period of time and a geotechnical setback to account for slope retreat to a stable angle of repose). “Channel migration zone” does not include disconnected migration areas, which are areas that have been disconnected from the river by legally existing artificial structure(s) that restrain channel migration (such as levees and
Channel migration zone or “CMZ” means the lateral extent of likely movement along a stream or river during the next 100 years as determined by evidence of active stream channel migration movement over the past 100 years.
Channel migration zone means the area within the lateral extent of likely stream channel movement due to a destabilization and erosion, rapid stream incision, aggradations, avulsions, and shifts in location of stream channels.
Channel migration zone means the area along a river or stream within which the
