Fitness for Duty definition

Fitness for Duty means the employee is free from the effects of drugs and/or alcohol and their corresponding hangover effects. No employee shall use alcohol four (4) hours prior to reporting for duty or during the hours they are on call. Not only is an individual’s concentration, reflexes, coordination and judgment impaired during the use of the drug (the “high), but these skills may also be significantly impaired during the hangover. Fitness for duty may be determined by, but is not limited to the following observed behaviors:
Fitness for Duty means the individual is fit to perform assigned tasks competently, safely, and in a manner that does not compromise or threaten the safety or health of that person or others, the environment, or property.
Fitness for Duty means to work in a manner suitable for performing satisfactorily, their assigned job. To determine “fitness for duty” a medical evaluation may be required and may include drug and/or alcohol testing.

Examples of Fitness for Duty in a sentence

  • If the employee fails to furnish conclusive evidence that the absence from duty is necessary, or if the employee fails to undergo an evaluation or furnish a medical report as requested by the EMPLOYER in accordance with the Article herein titled "Fitness for Duty," the EMPLOYER shall have the right to require the employee to return to work on a specified date.

  • Fitness for Duty: The District may require a physical and/or mental examination at the expense of the District where reasonable doubt arises in the minds of the District concerning the current health of the employee, and consistent the limitations imposed by applicable state and federal law.

  • A monthly update of the condition of the employee/immediate family member, using a Fitness for Duty Form, shall be completed by the attending medical care provider and submitted to the Human Resources Director.

  • If the employee’s test results are positive, the employee will be referred to and disciplined in accordance with the Fitness for Duty Program (see below).

  • All requests for a Fitness for Duty evaluation or reasonable suspicion examination will be reviewed and approved or denied by the Associate Vice President of Human Resources Officer or designee prior to sending an employee for an evaluation.
