Light duty definition
Light duty means a vehicle with a GVWR less than or equal to 8,500 lbs.
Light duty is a term used when an employee who has been injured on the job and who has been determined eligible for Workers Compensation benefits and leave. Before and until the employee’s Workers Compensation Doctor determines the employee has reached MMI (maximum medical improvement), the doctor may approve the employee to return to duty, but with work limitations that are provided in writing by the Workers Compensation Doctor. If the Chief of Police determines the Department can temporarily accommodate the employee returning to duty with these light-duty restrictions, the employee will return to duty under those restrictions.
Light duty shall refer to a temporary assignment given to an EMPLOYEE who is on Worker's Compensation. The assignment shall not extend beyond ninety (90) days without an administrative review of the EMPLOYEE having reached maximum medical improvement. LIGHT DUTY positions shall be in addition to current CCAEOCAP allocations, not in place of them.

For purposes of this directive, conditions justifying assignment to “light duty” status include, but are not limited to, any disability rendering it medically unsafe for a Member to perform full job functions and for a sworn Member to perform full police functions.
