Punitive Damages definition

Punitive Damages are those damages awarded as a penalty, the amount of which is neither governed nor fixed by statute.
Punitive Damages means damages that may be imposed to: a. Punish or deter wrongful, malicious or unlawful conduct; b. Deter wrongful, malicious or unlawful conduct; or c. Fine, penalize or impose a statutory penalty; other than damages intended to compensate for actual bodily injury or property damage incurred by a person. “Punitive damages” include, but are not limited to, damages referred to under any law as punitive damages, exemplary damages, treble damages or statutory multiple damages.
