Tax-free definition
Tax-free means that you will not pay income tax on the interest earned in the portfolio, or dividend withholding tax on the dividends earned in the portfolio, and when you eventually sell, you will pay no capital gains tax on the growth of the value in your portfolio (section 12T of the Income Tax Act).
