University Research definition

University Research means all research, activities, or work within or related to a person's expertise or general area of employment responsibility, or that has resulted from activities performed by the person on University time, with the support of University funds or from using University facilities, including work under a research agreement with an external sponsor and research conducted by anyone, whether or not a person as defined in this policy, who utilizes University resources.
University Research means any research conducted by a University Person: (i) involving or utilizing the facilities, equipment or financial aid (including any grant funding) provided or administered by the University; or (ii) while acting within the scope of such University Person’s duties or employment.
University Research means any research or development activity which is directly related to the duties and responsibilities for which a person has been compensated by or through the University or for which facilities owned, operated, or controlled by the University are used.

  • The research fellowships and grants will be funded at a level specified by the University Research Committee up to a maximum determined by Oakland.

  • Faculty research fellowships and grants shall be awarded only to bargaining unit members for the support of their research or other scholarly/creative activities deemed appropriate by the University Research Committee.

More Definitions of University Research

University Research means any research conducted by a University Person: (i) involving or utilizing the facilities, equipment or financial aid (including any grant funding) provided or administered by the University, but excluding research conducted as part of an undergraduate student's coursework, or a graduate student’s non-thesis related
University Research means any research supported or funded by the University (including, for example, commercially sponsored research and federally funded research). Research projects (whether or not involving students) performed or managed by faculty members in the course of their University employment will be deemed University research for purposes of this Policy. A faculty member is not performing or managing research for purposes of this Policy when he or she merely advises students in the performance of their independent or student-initiated research and otherwise makes no inventive contribution in connection with the research. The University often performs clinical studies or other, similar services for which the University is paid a fee. Under these circumstances, the University might agree in contracts related to these arrangements that resulting inventions, if any, will belong to the outside party purchasing such services. Under these circumstances, such services will be deemed University research for purposes of this Policy 7-002; however, ultimate ownership of any resulting intellectual property may be governed by the applicable agreement.

The term “facilities” excludes publicly or routinely-available University physical space, equipment, and materials, such as residence halls, common areas, meeting rooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, libraries, office spaces, furnishings, office supplies, standard office equipment, such as photocopiers, telephones, fax machines, and personal-type computers, and commercially available software in use on such computers, computer and communications networks, including internet access and data storage, that are nonessential to the creation of an Invention.)
