Alternative Assignment. In the event that an employee becomes incapable of performing the duties of his/her regular classification through occupational illness or industrial accident, the employer may transfer the employee without loss of pay to a position for which he/she is qualified provided the change can be accomplished without displacing another employee.

Alternative Assignment. Immediately following the completion of a probationary period that does not produce performance improvement detailed in the Probationary Plan of Improvement, the probationary employee may be removed from their assignment and placed into an alternative assignment for the remainder of the year. This reassignment may not displace another employee, nor may it adversely affect the probationary employee’s compensation or benefits for the remainder of the probationary employee’s contract year. If such a reassignment is not possible, the District may, at its option, place the probationary employee on paid leave for the balance of the contract term.

Leaves taken under this article have the potential of disrupting classes, since more than one instructor will teach the classes. In order to keep this disruption to a minimum, Western may deem it wise not to return the faculty member to the classroom for the conclusion of the semester in which a leave is taken. In these cases Western may require the faculty member to transfer temporarily to an alternative position, offered by Western, for which the member is qualified and which has equivalent pay and benefits.

A certificated classroom teacher may be removed from his or her assignment and placed into an alternative assignment for the remainder of the school year immediately following the completion of a probationary period that does not result in the required comprehensive summative evaluation performance rating of Level 2 or above for a provisional employee or a continuing contract employee with five or fewer years of experience or of Level 3 or above for a continuing contract employee with more than five (5) years of experience. The alternative assignment may not displace another staff member or adversely affect the certified classroom teacher’s/certificated support personnel’s compensation or benefits for the remainder of the contract year. In the event such alternative assignment is not possible, the district may place the staff person on paid leave for the balance of the contract term.
Alternative Assignment. The goal of teachers is to instruct their students and assess their level of mastery of the material in the curriculum. If a student violates the Academic Honor Code, then there has not been a valid assessment of a student’s level of learning. Teachers are justified in asking for a demonstration of a student’s level of mastery of work before proceeding further into the curriculum . The alternative assignment is not punitive in nature; rather, it is used to determine the level of mastery of the curriculum material.

  • Shift Assignment Should the University elect to establish a shift on any other schedule than the regular day shift (Monday through Friday) or to assign employees to work on any such shift, the employee(s) with the most seniority in the classification affected or to be assigned on such shift shall have preference in moving to such shift. If an insufficient number of employees in the classification elect to move to such shift, then the employee(s) with the least seniority in the classification shall be assigned to such shift. If positions or shifts are reduced or eliminated or movement of personnel to other shifts is required, then the seniority of the affected employee will prevail in the selection of shift, provided the affected employee can do the required work. Such shift preference is only applicable within the employee's classification.

All vacancies within the Bargaining Unit shall be posted (manually or electronically) in locations where Bargaining Unit employees regularly work. The posting shall include the title, wage range, and sufficient information regarding requirements and duties to adequately describe the vacancy. The vacancy shall remain posted for seven (7) calendar days which shall be spread between two (2) workweeks.
