Additional Background Information. The Instructional Staffing Department analyzes historical data to determine when new candidates can be selected and to project the number of candidates needed by subject area. One of the goals of the Instructional Staffing Department is to have all the vacancies filled by the first day of school. The Instructional Staffing Department assists schools by facilitating job fairs, screening applicants, and providing a recommended applicant pool. It is critical that qualified candidates are actively recruited locally, state-wide, and out-of-state to best meet the staffing needs of the District’s diverse student population. In preparation for filling teacher vacancies for the 2014-2015 school year, the Instructional Staffing Department will facilitate the 2014 Teacher Recruitment Fair. Candidates eligible for an educator’s certificate in a core subject area are invited to attend. Last year, over 900 candidates attended the 2013 Teacher Recruitment Fair, and 268 vacancies were submitted by locations, of which 83% were filled at the event. Additional Background Information. The City of Coral Springs (City) previously entered into a five (5) year License Agreement with the School Board of Broward County, Florida (SBBC) on April 20, 2010, and the agreement expired on December 31, 2014. Prior to expiration, District Staff contacted the City in pursuit of renewing the Agreement. However, the City did not pursue renewal. That License Agreement gave the City’s first responders, such as police officers, fire department, emergency medical technicians and others access to District school facilities during hurricanes and other natural disasters for staging purposes. Recently, the City indicated to District staff its desire to have the License Agreement reinstated to once again allow the City access to District school facilities during times of emergency. If approved by the SBBC, the City will be granted access to Building No. 11 and parking lot at Coral Springs High School (Exhibit A), Building No. 4 and parking lot at Coral Springs Middle School (Exhibit B), and Building No. 10 and parking lot at Xxxxxxxxx High School (Exhibit C). Per the License Agreement, access to these school facilities will only be granted to the City twenty-four (24) hours prior to the public notice of an impending hurricane, provided that the time frame coincides with SBBC’s decision to cancel school activities for safety of students and staff. It should be noted, that in advance of finalizing this License Agreement, District staff contacted the principals at all three schools listed above to seek their opinion about the City’s request. In response, each principal was in favor of the City utilizing the District school facilities during the cited emergencies.
