Common use of Availability of Patients for Teaching Clause in Contracts

Availability of Patients for Teaching. The Hospital will allow Students, for teaching purposes, access to such of its patients and their personal health information, both in-patients and ambulatory patients, as are necessary to meet its teaching commitments set out in the clinical Student teaching placements (attached as Schedule 1, as amended from time to time by agreement), subject to such restrictions as are imposed by the Hospital staff for clinical reasons and by Hospital patients, including any exercise of their right to refuse Student access. The Hospital will use its best efforts to provide the necessary mix of patients to meet the educational needs of Students placed in the Hospital. In exceptional circumstances if the Hospital ascertains that it will not be able to meet Students’ needs in any program or area as previously agreed upon, it will promptly advise the appropriate Department Chair or Xxxx and assist in finding alternate arrangements for the Students. The University will comply with all applicable privacy laws, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004, and agrees that it will advise all Students that they are required to comply with all applicable privacy laws and Hospital policies and procedures.
