Common use of BILINGUAL CERTIFICATION Clause in Contracts

BILINGUAL CERTIFICATION. Bilingual pay for members of the Association will be 5% or 2.5% of the top step base salary for the Fire Engineer classification and shall be paid in addition to all other compensation to those sworn personnel who are certified as bilingual. Employees currently compensated above the 5% rate will be “grandfathered” until recertification. Fire Administration (Management Analyst, Administrative Captain) will keep records of the individuals who elect to receive bilingual training and those who receive bilingual pay. The City will pay for bilingual training or for the bilingual skill, but not both. Employees may be tested by the Human Resources Division annually as to their language proficiency in order to maintain eligibility for bilingual pay. The City will pay for one test per year per employee. An employee may take the test more than once during the calendar year at his/her own expense.
