Developments on the Namibia Stock Exchange (NSX) in 2011 were affected by developments in the global financial markets which were largely influenced by the implementation of unconventional monetary policies in major advanced economies in response to a number of shocks on the global economy. Thus, quantitative easing in the US and the sovereign debt problems in the Euro Zone were reflected in some of the performance indicators of the NSX over the same period. The Overall Index dropped by 29 points at the end of 2011 to close at 838.2 points compared with 867.2 at the end of 2010. Consequently, market capitalization at the end of 2011 declined to N$1.1 trillion, representing a decline of 2.5 percent when compared to the closing amount at the end of 2010.
