Common use of CHANGES THROUGH MECHANIZATION AND TECHNOLOGY Clause in Contracts

CHANGES THROUGH MECHANIZATION AND TECHNOLOGY. No regular employee shall be dismissed because of mechanization, or technical change unless, through discussion between the Employer and the Union, agreement has been reached. In the event that the Employer should introduce any technological methods or mechanization which require new or greater skills than are possessed by an employee under the present method of operation such employee shall, at the expense of the Employer, undergo a period of training, during which time the employee will have the opportunity of becoming fully qualified. Prior to entering into the training period, discussion shall take place between the parties to this Agreement in order to determine the manner and method of replacing the employee while undergoing training and the job to which the employee may return should the training be unsuccessful.
