Class Cancellation and Procedures for Reassignment. In the event that an assigned class has been cancelled due to inadequate course enrollment and all other appointment possibilities in the department have been exhausted, first priority will be given to finding the Graduate Employee another instructional assignment appropriate to the Employees’ experience and expertise. If such an assignment is unavailable, the Employee will be offered a non-instructional Graduate Teaching Assistant assignment or a Graduate Student Assistant position. In such a case the salary, tuition waiver, and benefits for the specified period shall not be less than that specified in the original written job offer. If the proposed non-instructional Graduate Teaching Assistant or Graduate Student Assistant duties are unacceptable for whatever reason, the Employee may, at his or her choice, decline the appointment. Employees who elect to decline an appointment to Graduate Student Assistant duties shall be provided a severance payment equal to ten percent (10%) of the salary originally offered in lieu of the appointment. An Employee who elects not to accept appointment as a Graduate Student Assistant must do so in writing within two weeks of the date the appointment as a Graduate Student Assistant is tendered.
