Constant communication. It is not enough to create a trust-based relationship. This needs time, efforts and proofs, and once created it should be maintained through a constant communication and engagement with the public. Of particular importance is to keep the communication alive during normal situations, providing information which could help both the source and population in crisis moments. Keeping the dialogue open familiarizes population with source communicators, demonstrates the empathy, and strengthens the trust. - when a source creates open channels for communication using all possible ways in order to be easily reached by the people (interactive web pages, blogs or other social media communication, regular press conferences, journal articles) and adapts the content to the people’s concerns, which can change over time; - when a source organizes periodic meetings with the people (open door, infodays, etc,) - when a source involved in the implementation of a project having potential radiological risk (such a nuclear power plant, radioactive waste repository) starts communication in an early phase, establishes a direct relationship based on transparency and openness, involves the public in decision making process and keeps active this participation along the project implementation. A positive example here is the very early involvement of the Mioveni community in the construction of ▇▇▇▇▇▇, the demonstrator of the lead fast reactor (one of the Gen IV technologies) on the site of the Institute for Nuclear Research (RATEN ICN) from Romania9. At the RATEN ICN initiative, from the very beginning of the project, the Local Council of the hosting community was consulted and shortly after ▇▇▇▇▇▇ Local Dialogue Group was created. The group consists of 13 members: 5 persons elected as members of the Local Council, 5 representatives of citizens and 3 representatives from RATEN ICN as permanent invited persons. Since its creation at the beginning of 2015, meetings were organized each semester having on the agendas topics related to the novelty of this reactor, safety aspects, potential risks and benefits to the community. Discussions revealed an increased confidence and trust in the professionalism and competence of RATEN ICN specialists in the operation of the existing research reactor which is a guarantee for the new project.
