FILL COMPACTION. All embankment and waste material shall be compacted. Minimum acceptable compaction is achieved by placing embankments in 1 foot or shallower lifts, and routing excavation equipment over the entire width of each lift. Except as otherwise specified in this plan, a vibratory plate compactor or tamper shall be used for areas specifically requiring keyed embankment construction, and for embankment segments too narrow to accommodate equipment. Compaction with a plate compactor shall be made by a minimum of three full coverages; each lift shall not exceed 6 inches in depth.
