Internal Support Measures. 1. The Parties recognize the existence of domestic support measures for the agricultural sector and that such measures may distort trade and affect production. They further recognize that commitments on reduction of domestic support may arise in the multilateral agricultural negotiations under the GATT. Therefore, when a Party decides to support its agricultural producers, it will endeavor to move towards domestic support policies that: (a) have no or minimal trade or production distorting effects; or
