Interpretation clauses Clause Samples

An interpretation clause defines how specific terms, phrases, or references within a contract should be understood and applied. It typically clarifies the meaning of key words, sets out rules for interpreting dates, numbers, or gendered language, and may specify how references to legislation or documents should be read. By providing these guidelines, the interpretation clause ensures consistency and reduces ambiguity throughout the contract, helping to prevent misunderstandings and disputes over the meaning of contractual provisions.
