The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is a confederation of 24 independent special districts that serve wastewater and solid waste management to approximately 5.5 million people in Los Angeles County. Pursuant to a Joint Outfall Agreement effective July 1, 2022, 17 of the 24 special districts proportionally share ownership and operation of the XXX, a regional interconnected system of wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities that include 1,220 miles of sewers to convey approximately 350 million gallons per day of wastewater to 7 wastewater treatment plants.
