MTT toxicity studies Clause Samples

MTT toxicity studies. A relatively simple assay for cytotoxicity is the MTT (3[4, 5-dimethylthiazol- 2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) test. The MTT is a tetrazolium dye that is reduced by mitochondrial enzymes and its colour changes from yellow to blue. This reaction takes place only in cells with viable mitochondria; therefore the colour intensity is directly related to the viability of the cell. This is a useful test to detect cytotoxic compounds.
