Overtime, 2. 5.2: When a regular Yardmaster takes the first four (4) or last four (4) hours of their shift off, the vacancy will be filled in the following order: Incumbent Yardmaster preceding or following the vacancy will be offered the opportunity to protect. If they are unavailable, Position 5 will be required to protect if on-duty during the time the vacancy occurs. The four-hour vacancy would then be filled in overtime order of call based on seniority. Referencing Section 2.7 Guaranteed Extra List Yardmasters, 2.7.5: Order of call for unanticipated vacancies: Extra List Yardmasters, rest permitting. Positions 1-4 Yardmasters at overtime irrespective of ability to cover their regularly scheduled assignment. Position five (5) would then be required to protect. If a regular Yardmaster moves off their assigned work schedule to protect an unanticipated vacancy at the overtime rate, they will resume their normal work schedule at the next available opportunity and will not be entitled to a basic day for making such move off their regular assignment. Overtime, 2. 7.1 In this agreement, overtime work refers to work that the employee has performed in addition to the length of the normally applicable daily working time if • overtime work has been ordered be the employer in advance; or • where the overtime work could not be ordered in advance, it has been approved retrospectively by the employer. Time required the employee to carry out necessary and normally oc- curring preparatory and finishing work is not counted as overtime according to 2.7.2 below. When calculating completed overtime, only full half-hours are included. If the overtime work has been performed both before and after the normal working hours on a given day, the two overtime periods are to be added together in the calculation.
