Precast Structures Below Water Table. 1. Gravel Base: The space between the proposed bottom of the structure, and the bottom of the excavation shall be backfilled with gravel and screeded level to receive the proposed structure. If the excavation is not dewatered, after placing the screeding, the backfill will be sounded with a rigid pole and attached 6-inch diameter foot piece to indicate, to the satisfaction of the Engineer, that the backfill has been placed to the proper elevation, is level throughout, and is ready to receive the structure. This final sounding of the material shall immediately precede setting of the structure.
