PURPOSE OF THE TRUST. The purpose of the Trust shall be to engage in the business of being an investment company, and as such of subscribing for, purchasing or otherwise acquiring, holding for investment or trading in, borrowing, lending and selling short, selling, assigning, negotiating or exchanging and otherwise disposing of, and turning to account, realizing upon and generally dealing in and with, in any manner, (a) Securities of all kinds, (b) precious metals and other minerals, contracts to purchase and sell, and other interests of every nature and kind in, such metals or minerals, and (c) rare coins and other numismatic items, and all as the Trustees in their discretion shall determine to be necessary, desirable or appropriate, and to exercise and perform any and every act, thing or power necessary, suitable or desirable for the accomplishment of such purpose, the attainment of any of the objects or the furtherance of any of the powers given hereby which are lawful purposes, objects or powers of a trust with transferable shares of the type commonly termed a Massachusetts business trust; and to do every other act or acts or thing or things incidental or appurtenant to or growing out of or in connection with the aforesaid objects, purposes or powers, or any of them, which a trust of the type commonly termed a Massachusetts business trust is not now or hereafter prohibited from doing, exercising or performing.
