Research Design and Methodology. Our study was based on descriptive research. We used a qualitative research method. Our main research instrument was the interview guide. Xxxxxxxxx and Xxxxx (2009) states that the interview guide can be an overview of the themes that should be covered or it can be detailed with specific questions. Therefore, as researchers we created questions which helped us to collect data from our respondents specifically meant for the topic of study. Furthermore, the research was a case study centered on Somali refugees residing in Sogndal municipality (not in the Mottak) with residency permit from UDI to live in Norway.

Research Design and Methodology. Initially the researcher planned to conduct a purely quantitative study using only a survey as the instrument to determine teacher and teacher leader perceptions. It was decided that a mixed methods approach would be more appropriate in order to question and probe deeper into determining the participants’ perceptions. The researcher believed that questioning and probing deeper to determine reasons for the perceptions and suggestions for improvement would be more beneficial to school leaders, thus impacting the school reform and increase student academic outcomes. This study was descriptive, describing elements utilized by principals to change teacher delivery. According to Xxxxxxxxx (2004), descriptive studies often “illuminate parts of our world that we might otherwise not encounter” (p. 32). Descriptive studied are about “perceiving important aspects of situation (possibly those missed by others) and organizing and presenting them so richly and vividly that they come alive in the theater of the mind. Such description makes the obscure real and the understandable (Xxxxxxxxx, 2004). According to Xxxxx and Xxxxxxx (1995), descriptive research is a process of bring situations or events to life. Descriptive research was the chosen methodology as it can collect factual information to identify current conditions or practices and provide information that might be applies for future situation (Fraenkel & Xxxxxx, 2009; Gay et al., 2006). Participants in this research were highly qualified teachers from three of the five comprehensive high schools in a large urban district in Northern California. Participating teachers have been required by the district to participate in education and training in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process; however, there was one comprehensive high school that has been introduced to Kotter’s Eight Steps of change as well as received more detailed training and practice in the data team process. The data team process assured that the teachers of the control group were presenting their curriculum utilizing research-based instructional strategies through positive measurable outcomes to work with their school’s students. All staff has already been required by the district to participate in education and training in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process. The data team process, a strategy from the frameworks of the PLC process, will assure that the participants are presenting their curriculum utilizing research-based ins...

Research Design and Methodology. In chapter three a study overview is provided followed by a description of the study area, design and methodology for the preliminary and main phases of the study. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the study assumptions, challenges and limitations. This retrospective, cross sectional study employed social network analysis (SNA) and ethnographic decision tree modeling (EDM) to: 1) test the utility of the Network-Episode Model (NEM) in explaining women’s health service utilization decisions in uncomplicated pregnancy and childbirth, and 2) examine the predictive power of women’s self-identified decision-making criteria on choice of birth attendant in the event of uncomplicated pregnancy and birth. Bangladeshi women 18-45 years of age residing in the Matlab Health Service Area (MHSA) of Bangladesh who experienced a live birth in the 3 months prior to data collection were invited to participate. The study occurred in partnership with the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) through Emory University Nell Hodgson School of Nursing, Center for Research on Maternal and Newborn Survival (CRMNS). The Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved both phases of the study for the Protection of Human Subjects at Emory University and the Ethical Review Committee (ERC) at the ICDDR,B. The study had two phases: a preliminary phase (June - August 2007) and a main phase (September 2008 - January 2009). Sigma Theta Tau Alpha Epsilon Chapter, Emory University Laney Graduate School, and Emory University Global Health Institute funded the preliminary phase. The main phase was funded through the National Institute of Nursing Research, National Research Service Award (# 1F31NR010650-01) and an American Nurses Foundation Nursing Research Grant (#2008-084). The funding sources had no role in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation or writing of the results. Bangladesh is located in the northeastern part of South Asia. The country is surrounded by India except for the southern coastline on the Bay of Bengal and a short southeastern border with Myanmar. Situated at sea level, on the deltas of two large rivers flowing from the Himalayas (i.e., Ganges-Padma, Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Megna), the land is prone to frequent flooding and cyclones. The geography keeps parts of the country isolated during the annual monsoon season from July through early October. During an average flood year, close to 18% of Bangladesh’s land mass is...
