SKILLS MIX PROVISIONS. 3.2.1 In health unit sites (other than country health unit sites) the skill mix for inpatient units is 70:30 registered nurses/midwives to enrolled nurses/assistant in nursing/midwifery. DHA or ANMF may seek to have the skill mix in a health unit site or part thereof adjusted should any role, service requirement or change in service volume occur in such health unit site or part thereof.
3.2.2 In country health unit sites the skill mix is maintained at the level set out in Appendix 4 (with a positive/negative tolerance factor of 5%) averaged over a 12 month period. DHA or ANMF may seek to have the skill mix in a country health unit site or part thereof adjusted should any role, service requirement or change in service volume occur at that country health unit site or part thereof.
3.2.3 Graduate nurses/midwives are to be included in the RN/M ratio but are not, unless otherwise agreed between the parties, to be rostered as the only registered nurse/midwife in a health unit site or patient care area in the first 6 months of employment.

3.2.4 DHW and the ANMF will agree on the terms for a research project to be conducted during the life of this Agreement to explore the effect of different skills mixes (of RNs, RMs, ENs and AINs) on patient outcomes, costs and staff experience in similar patient care areas.
