Substitute Bus Driver. The below language specifically supersedes and replaces the Parties February 1, 1994 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the topic of substitute bus drivers.
1. Substitute bus drivers will be used to cover home-to-school routes only on an “as needed” basis.
2. Substitute bus drivers will be assigned to cover AM and PM runs ONLY. Mid-day, after school, and extra assignments that are attached to a route the substitute bus driver has accepted will be covered by bargaining unit drivers and will be assigned using the existing procedures for assigning daily work.
3. Substitute bus drivers will not be allowed to work any assignment other than AM/PM runs and/or other driving assignment that may result in overtime unless said work has been offered to all bargaining unit members.
Substitute Bus Driver. A qualified, licensed part-time driver who is not 36 assigned to a full time regular or summer route or Unassigned Regular 37 position.
Substitute Bus Driver. Whenever the term "Substitute Bus Driver" is used, it shall mean a regular school bus driver who is employed or assigned to drive a route temporarily.

Regular Run -- A specific route, which involves the transportation of students from home to school or school to home. The Career Center, Preschool and Teen Scene are regular runs. Extra Trips -- Any trip outside of a regular run. Double Run – A SECONDARY SCHOOL regular run and Elementary regular run.
Substitute Bus Driver. A substitute bus driver is one who is not assigned to a regular bus route and who may be called from time to time to provide services at the Employer’s sole discretion. The substitute bus driver must adhere to all qualifications and expectations of a bus driver. For a sub driver hired with all required credentials, they will be eligible for all benefits under this Contract after the thirty (30) calendar day probationary period. All sub drivers hired without credentials are eligible for all sub driver benefits under this Contract after the ninety (90) calendar day probationary period. During the ninety (90) calendar day or thirty (30) calendar day probationary period, the sub bus driver may be disciplined or discharged with or without cause in the sole judgment of the employer. Probationary periods may be extended by the immediate supervisor if deemed necessary via documentation. A substitute bus driver may take trips only after bus drivers have exhausted the rotation process. Trips are not part of the regular benefits for substitute drivers. Substitute bus drivers temporarily assigned a regular bus route or temporary route are eligible for holidays and suspended school days under this contract after five (5) days working the assigned route(s). The holidays and suspended school days benefit will end once the substitute bus driver is no longer assigned a regular route.
Substitute Bus Driver a) A substitute bus driver shall be assigned at the discretion of the transportation supervisor.
b) Regular ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ who are interested in substituting shall make their desire known to the transportation supervisor by signing the appropriate substitute list
c) Career Center and kindergarten absences oftess than one week shall be assigned by substitute rotation and availability.
d) Career Center and kindergarten absences of one week or greater shall be bid by seniority and availability.
Section 1. Bus Routes
Substitute Bus Driver a) Substitute Bus Driver - One who cannot or does not meet the commitment of a regular bus driver and can be placed on a daily basis or a call basis at the discretion of the Transportation Supervisor and/or the Business Manager in accordance with specific needs of the Transportation Department.
i) A school bus driver who cannot or does not work regularly (morning and afternoon) five (5) days a week.
ii) A driver who drives when a regular driver is absent or when a regular run is open for lack of a regular driver.
iii) A driver who can work regularly five (5) days a week when there are no open bus runs. Such a driver may be assigned a regular run when one becomes available, according to seniority.
b) A Substitute Driver who has completed his/her probationary period, and qualifies will be temporarily appointed by seniority whenever a Regular Bus Driver is not going to be working for a period of one (1) year for whatever reason, i.e. leave of absence, injury, prolonged illness, etc. A Substitute Driver will be compensated in terms of pay, benefits and the opportunity for additional bus runs the same as a Regular Bus Driver is compensated. Such compensation will continue until the Regular Driver returns, at which time the Substitute Driver will then return to his/her previous status unless the opportunity to become a Regular Driver arises.
c) After three months continuous driving of one Regular Driver’s run a Substitute Driver will be eligible for additional bus runs, the same as a Regular Driver. Such compensation will continue until the Regular Driver returns, at which time the Substitute Driver will return to his/her previous status.
d) During the first twenty-six weeks of employment a new employee shall be eligible for regular runs only. Eligibility for all runs for the second half of the first year of employment will be determined at the time of the twenty-six week evaluation.
