The University is committed to its role in the creation of a competitive, innovative and knowledge-based economy in Northern Ireland. Part of this role involves the promotion of technology and knowledge transfer via licensing and/or the creation of spin-out companies, both of which require the protection and exploitation of Intellectual Property (IP). The Department for Research & Innovation Directorate manages IP commercialisation, protection and licensing on behalf of the University.
