Contract Type FiledJune 23rd, 2011One of the most costly resources used in upstream logistics are platform supply vessels. The main function for such type of vessels is transportation of goods and personnel to and from offshore oil platforms. We present here a large neighbourhood search heuristic with speed optimization for a real-world periodic supply vessel planning problem faced by Statoil. Formerly, that problem was grounded on fixed speed and given fuel consumption rate for each vessel. However, in order to integrate the economic benefits with environmental aspects we implement speed optimization algorithm with variable vessel speed and evaluate fuel consumption by cubic function of speed. A computation study shows that the solution solves problem of realistic size and that variable speed allows archiving object of minimization fuel emissions and cutting down expenses.
