GREAT ADVANCES were made to- wards a new, multi-effect protocol at the last meeting of the working group under the Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution at the end of January in Geneva. Agreement was reached in particular on a so-called central scenario, which is intended to serve as a basis for continued negotia- tions. It was further agreed that the new protocol should also call for still further reductions of the emissions of sulphur.
