FiledFebruary 21st, 2024In symmetric spaces, there is a remarkable interplay between parallel transport and isometries. Since the former only uses the connection and not the metric, we need to broaden the scope of our consideration temporarily. If M is a Riemannian manifold, we can treat it as an affine manifold—endowed with the Levi-Civita connection. Its group of isometries then becomes a subgroup of an a priori larger group of affine transformations.
