The Councils are each local authority established under the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended) and each is a local social services authority by virtue of section 2 of the Local Authority Social Services Act 1970. The Councils commission and provide social care and education services for children in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and discharge their obligations through the Children’s Directorate. The Councils deliver statutory public health functions under the Health and Social Care Act (2012).
