The purpose of this agreement is to maintain harmonious and mutually beneficial relationships between the Halifax Port Corporation, the Employees and the Alliance, to set forth the certain terms and conditions of employment relating to pay, hours of work, employee benefits and general working conditions affecting employees covered by this agreement and to ensure that all reasonable measures are provided for the safety and occupational health of the employees.

When an employee dies or otherwise ceases to be employed, the employee or his estate shall, in lieu of earned but unused vacation and furlough leave, be paid an amount equal to the product obtained by multiplying the number of days of earned but unused leave by the daily rate of pay applicable to the employee immediately prior to the termination of his employment.
