A mentor/buddy mentor teacher is a successful experienced teacher who is TxBESS trained and committed to providing on-going support and assistance to a first or second year teacher. The mentor teacher should demonstrate excellence in teaching and be willing to establish a professional relationship with the new teacher. The mentor teacher needs to be sensitive to the viewpoint of others, be an active and open-minded learner, and utilize effective communication skills.
